ABSTRACT

This chapter elaborates on the implications of environmental media management by exploring the range of areas such practices would need to cover as well as the regulatory implications of developing policy to account for the complex emissions the sector generates. The discussion emphasizes the necessity of comprehending media policy in its political economic contexts. To explain these complications, the chapter focuses on a case study of the Responsible Media Forum, a consultancy working on environmental directives for the media industry. The discussion encapsulates a range of critical perspectives on key concepts such as sustainable development as well as the use of legal and economic imperatives to introduce environmental sustainability into the media industry.
