ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores how voice of teacher is integral to becoming a skilful teacher and how voice can be used as productive tool to help facilitate teaching and learning. It also explores the mechanical, physical and mental skills needed to develop the teaching voice. The book helps to develop ideas of how the voice links more closely to teacher's pedagogy, and how development of both is inextricably linked. It demonstrates how an effective teaching voice works in conjunction with teacher's body language to create a strong teaching identity. The chapter considers how the teacher can complete the daily act of teaching, communicating and practice without damaging the voice as an instrument. It also helps the teacher to unpick bad habits in order to promote better methods and ways of working with their voice.
