ABSTRACT

Understanding genre is all about understanding expectations. If your new outrageous comedy script makes its way to a production company who has put the word out that they’re looking to develop family fi lms at the moment, even if your comedy script is terrifi c, it won’t interest them. A good script should be a good script, right? Sure —and that’s always true. But just because it’s good doesn’t mean that hot director you want to read your new thriller will respond to it now — she may have decided that as her last fi lm was a thriller, she wants a change of pace and is looking for a comedy.
