ABSTRACT
Genocide is a word that is oft-used but seldom understood. This chapter explores genocide as a socio-legal phenomenon. It compares legal and social-scientific understandings of the perpetration of genocide, while arguing that genocide is a uniquely political crime. The structure and methodology of Perpetrating Genocide are set out, while examining the benefits and challenges to using interviews as a research method.
