ABSTRACT
The chapter will provide a context for the book. It will seek to introduce counselling psychology as a discipline inclusive of psychological therapy with a focus on application, and also with a management, teaching, research and training emphasis. The chapter will provide an overview statement of philosophy and the historical origins of counselling psychology within the UK and the differences observed in other countries, e.g. America, which does not have the same philosophical emphasis.
