ABSTRACT

Most BBS processes will include some version of a guiding committee, including safety or other shop-floor representatives, experts and line management. Often a dedicated project manager or 'champion' will be designated with, ideally, some combination of the two. SMART has various versions, but mine is specific, measurable, agreed, realistic, reviewed and time-set. Cynicism aside, whatever the motivation for halving numbers of incidents, it's great. In my experience, it's something that can realistically be achieved in one to two years, or sooner if conditions are favourable. Implemented well, the two issues above will automatically enhance this area. If we coach well and lead well, generally this will lead to workforce empowerment. This is extremely useful for orientation and tracking, which enhances learning, and also for feedback using data and illustration as an element of coaching best practice.
