ABSTRACT

Almost all Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) (e.g. for non-transport development such as urban development, power stations, afforestation) will include consideration of the environmental impacts of transport due to movement of people and goods generated during the construction, use and decommissioning of that development. The outputs of classic transport model provide estimates of traffic and/or passenger flows on the links in the modelled network, which represent roads or public transport routes in the real world. These estimates in turn provide inputs to the prediction, estimation or modelling of environmental effects that are correlated to these flows, such as noise and air pollution. This chapter discusses the application of classic transport model. New transport developments can cause community severance. In relation to major developments that will generate significant levels of new travel and traffic, it has become good practice worldwide for a Transport Statement or Transport Assessment to be prepared.
