ABSTRACT

In heroic defiance, Expeditus stomped on the devil-bird with a victorious shout of 'today', in an instant; he became the patron saint of procrastinators, and teachers, everywhere. Teaching can often take the patience and persistence of a saint. St Expeditus fits the bill for our new patron saint nicely. The filling of the barn could easily prove a metaphor for teachers straining to write reports, communicate with parents, plan and teach their lessons, whilst marking students' work, attending meetings and the rest, all in a single day. Teacher workload across the world is on the increase, with technology penetrating every boundary of our lives with work. A confident and assured teacher is forced to manage these emotional barriers daily. Other reasons include the curse of perfectionism, where we can never finish anything because nothing meets our unrealistic standards. Many aspects of teaching, like lesson planning and giving written feedback, often move between both fluid and fixed time definitions.
