ABSTRACT

This chapter describes an opportunity to summarize some key recommendations for candidates and interviewers, as well as a way to illustrate how organizations can position the interview as a valuable long-term investment to ensure the success of their operations over time. Rachel and Mark's experiences highlighted both "best practices" and errors to avoid for job applicants and interviewers. Rachel and Mark's journey depicted in the previous chapters illustrates the current state of interviewing practices. Video-recorded interviews watched at a later time by hiring managers are only the first step towards integrating technology in the interviewing process. Yet, the feasibility of combining video-recorded interviews and virtual reality environments will depend on a number of factors, including the popularity of this technology, applicants' reaction to it, and so on. The chapter provides readers with an overview of the knowledge and evidence accumulated by psychology and management researchers about job interviews over the last decades.
