ABSTRACT

The principal drivers of global warming are now known with a high degree of confidence. Current mainstream scientific knowledge suggests with high certainty that the cause of increasing concentration of atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHGs) is anthropogenic. The climate agreement forged in Paris in December 2015 to address the climate challenge is the new multilateral climate response to cover the period between 2020, when the agreement should enter into force, and 2030. The Paris talks were supposed to produce a new climate treaty to ensure that warming stays below +2C relative to pre-industrial levels a politically understood threshold, which is based on the warmest temperature on Earth in the past 800,000 years. In 1996, a year after COP, the European Union acknowledged +2C as the threshold at which average temperature on Earth may warm and adopted the target as the official climate policy standard. Climate zones have started shifting as atmospheric circulation changes courses.
