ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author outlines ten recommendations for successful scholarship. He explains those recommendations most closely addressing writing for publication. The author shows how to be a "student of the game" by consuming and relying on available resources. He discusses many compelling books which focused on publishing in psychology and other fields. If publisher find that writing is hard," wrote William Zinsser, "it's because it is hard". When we asked some of the most productive scholars in school psychology to provide them the titles of published resources that were most helpful to them in their research and writing, only two resources addressing manuscript construction were offered more than once. Numerous well-developed reference management software programs are available to make handling of references much easier. Many authors fail to devote sufficient effort to manuscript review and proofing during the post-drafting stage. The author also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
