ABSTRACT

Despite seeking balance in the services provided by school psychologists to offset assessment with more diverse roles and activities, there remains profound interest in educational and psychological assessment and test development. This chapter focuses on the process of test publishing for individuals who are passionate about measuring the multitude of psychological and educational entities that presumably exist—and if they exist, exist in some quantity, and therefore can be measured. Individuals seeking to develop tests have essentially two options for publishing their work: commercial publishing houses or public domain outlets. The chapter describes how to write a proposal to present a test idea to a commercial publisher and discusses the inherent value of public domain publications and their possible outlets. With public domain test publishing, there are essentially three options: self-publishing, agency/institutional publishing, and publishing a test within a book or journal article.
