ABSTRACT

For many years the Institute of Physics has been working on improving the gender balance in physics. It has carried out significant research to figure out how this can be improved in the school context; this has been reported in publications such as ‘Opening doors: A guide to good practice in countering gender stereotyping in schools’ (IOP, 2015). Many of the results of its research are applicable to any subject and are designed to improve equality for all; the Institute of Physics has also produced an excellent ‘10 tips for teachers’ summary document (IOP, 2016). Exemplification of these principles should be identifiable in many of the training ideas we have offered you within this book.
