ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to present a conceptual framing of socio-spatiality and how it has been discussed in urban design, human geography, and social work with a specific focus on community-orientated practices. It also aims to reactualize and revitalize the discussion of community work as a socio-spatial response to segregation and vulnerability within glocal social work, including Nordic community work. The chapter discusses the deliberation of diverse arguments about socio-spatiality and community work, based on a selection of literature, scientific articles, and practical examples from a Nordic perspective. It shows that social work is challenged not only by globalism and urbanism, but also by new socio-spatial conditions, demands, and discourses. The chapter also discusses the socio-spatial theories, thought, and practices have been recounted to reconceptualize social work in the form of eco-social work, social-space work, and socio-spatial community work.
