ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the evidence base for, and progress in the development of, interventions to support and enhance intergenerational relations among Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people in the UK. To examine how older LGB people's relationships may differ from those of non-LGB people, the analysis employs a measure of exclusion from relationships originally developed by M. Barnes and colleagues. S. Farrier's study was the only report of community-based intergenerational work taking place among LGBT people in the UK since 2010/2011, although the evidence base has developed beyond the UK. His study provides a detailed account of the 'Front Room', an intergenerational performance project organised by the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, which also developed one of the intergenerational projects. Policy towards austerity means that projects and services have to demonstrate both a need for intergenerational work among LGBT people and its benefits.
