ABSTRACT

The term “packaging” refers to all the materials used for the protection, the assessment, the transportation and the presentation of products as they move along the supply chain. Packaging serves a wide range of targets, ranging from the protection of the product and the facilitation of its transportation to its promotion to the market. An ecological label is basically a label that determines the total environmental behavior of a product or service, based on its entire life cycle. The standards and the criteria are usually defined in collaboration with various relative organizations and the certification is carried out through an independent process. The environmental behavior is guaranteed, based on the fact that the ecological label is provided by a neutral third body. The agri-food sector includes both primary production from agriculture as well as the wider food industry using primary products for food production.
