ABSTRACT

In a corner of the yard of Cheng Ch’ing-yin, head of the Hsin-chuang Production Team of Pai-mu Commune in Ch’in-yüan hsien, there stands an old wheelbarrow covered with a mat which appears to the eye to have a history of at least thirty years. Whenever he is asked about the story behind his wheelbarrow, Cheng Ch’ing-yin replies with a deep sigh: “Ah! It’s a long story. This wheelbarrow has borne the blood and tears of my family.”
