ABSTRACT
This chapter reflects on the multiplex web of overlapping relationships and role positions that contextualise my work and identities as researcher, teacher, interpreter and language activist in the New Zealand Deaf community. I draw lessons from working in the contact zone between Deaf and hearing worlds and consider the rewards and frustrations of being a long-term participant observer in a minority language community.
