ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the relabeling of my community and language in a government language policy document, which led to community feelings of dispossession and to my current research in the area of linguistic human rights. The chapter considers the importance of community ownership of identity and how community identity may be threatened by the imposition of a single change of a label.
