ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to address ethical dimensions of nursing theory. In particular, the ethical dimensions of the middle-range theory The Omnipresence of Cancer are explored. Nursing theory is considered one of the ways to encompass current and essential knowledge on nursing for the discipline (Rodgers, 2005). For the purpose of this chapter, ethical theories and principles are presented. In addition, the five patterns of knowing constituting nursing knowledge are presented (Chinn and Kramer, 2007). These theoretical bases are used to explore the ethical dimensions of The Omnipresence of Cancer. Rarely have nursing theories been explored for their ethical knowledge and their contribution to ethical knowing. Recommendations for practice are provided.
