ABSTRACT

I. The Three Waves of Feminism As an addition from previous editions, this chapter on feminism discusses the three „waves‰ of feminism: early feminism and the right to vote; the challenge of structural inequalities in the economy and the society that disadvantage women; and gender essentialism that denies gender choices to people. Throughout, a continuing issue of great currency to contemporary politics is always front and center, and this issue pertains to the reasons for, as well as the way to overcome, the exclusion of women from full participation in the public realm of work and politics. Now, to a discussion of feminist political thought.
