ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book focuses on regeneration in relation to the three areas of sport, events and tourism. It addresses the range of perspectives pertaining to regeneration with the intent to challenge scholars and students to think about regeneration holistically. The book also focuses on image, policy and intangible impacts that require strategic management agendas that respond to contemporary social, political and economic issues concerning regeneration, change and development. It also addresses much of the critique and scepticism brought on by the Asian Games considering Incheon's desire to brand a new destination driven by popular culture to attract regional visitors. Alberto Amore and C. Michael Hall address the number of challenges and policy issues associated with sport and event-led regeneration strategies following a major natural disaster. The book pays particular attention to public policy and social impacts.
