The chapter examines young artists as constructors and visionaries thinking outside the boundaries of traditional art practices. It details the possibilities of visual problem solving in art classes by building and thinking with objects. To encourage innovation and innovators, their shopping finds need to take center stage, become the principle homework and class preparation for every art session. In the art classroom, drawing and painting projects need to make room for artists as innovators, builders and constructors. These are a type of auction, with great opportunity for young artists to make suggestions and find new uses for building with objects. It describes valuable techniques that can be used to support student innovators in an art room. The art teacher’s gestures and words empower students to build and make things, turning anything in the room into something exceptional.
