ABSTRACT

Art teachers can study early design inclinations of children as they play in spaces such as home kitchens and yards. As part of the larger purpose, this chapter reinforces the need for art teachers to recognize and remember children's basic motives and sources for building and innovating. When adults make the bed, or straighten drawers and counters at home, not only are children demoted from favorite tasks, but they also miss out on important artistic preparation for school. Designing humans, humanoids, robots, handcrafted people and dolls, children perform original design acts that can be revisited in school art class. After the richness of early furnishing expressions, the art class can build on experiences to provide opportunities to further innovate in building furniture and encouraging furnishing different places. Children who spend a great deal of time just inventing outdoors bring a wealth of experiences with innovative wisdom to art class playground designing.
