ABSTRACT
Two simple but plausible assumptions can be made about the process by which a participant in a dialogue decides whether to speak or not at any given time:
1 His decision to speak or not at some given time will be made on the basis of the state of the dialogue at the immediately preceding time. This state of the dialogue would include information from the various nonverbal cues already mentioned.
