ABSTRACT

Adaptive architecture aims to meet occupant need, while also helping those occupants to reach their desired goals. Adaptive sensory design will bring renewed awareness between occupants and architecture. And engagement between the two will leave an impression on each. As technology continues to advance into the future, it is important that designers embrace what makes up human experience. In this way, architecture can emerge to guide technology so that there is control in preserving and celebrating the beauty of human experience. Adaptive sensory environments strive for progress within themselves, their individual occupants and the collective aspirations of those occupants. For the architect, occupant-centered design takes on renewed meaning as adaptive sensory environments magnify its purpose. The compounding reach of such environments extends well beyond perimeter walls–where occupants thrive as a result of their experience to, in turn, uplift the future tangible and intangible channels they touch.
