ABSTRACT

Motivation can be achieved by presenting the class with a hands-on approach, using concrete materials of an unusual nature. This may include teacher-made materials, such as models of geometric shapes, geo strips, specifically prepared PowerPoint slides, or practical devices that illustrate a specific geometric principle. Some excellent commercially prepared materials are available, ranging from geometric models to videos of various kinds. Students can become passionately inspired through the clever use of well-chosen materials. Assuming that the students are aware of the formula for finding the area of a parallelogram, this motivator presents a nice justification for the formula for the area of a circle. In middle school, the students have worked with triangles that are equilateral, isosceles, right, acute, obtuse and so on. The motivational activity will have a profound impression on students who have seen the circle area formula many times and need refresher motivation.
