ABSTRACT

One Tool Schools use to share and discuss a teacher's practice is to examine student work—a specific work product of an assignment. To formalize and guide the teachers’ conversations with each other about student work, and to ensure structured safety for the discussion, schools use protocols. Below is a protocol adapted from one created by the National School Reform Faculty (https://www.nsrfharmony.org): “Atlas: Learning from Student Work Protocol.” Atlas Learning Communities is a comprehensive school improvement model founded in 1992 by James Comer, Howard Gardner, Theodore Sizer, and Janet Whitla.
