ABSTRACT
This last chapter is about sport, politics, and the future. Throughout this book, we have been considering the effects of powerful and pervasive sociodemographic, organizational, economic, political, and technological processes that have expanded the reach and influence of corporate and commercialized sports around the world. We have seen how the power of the Golden Triangle has combined with these social processes to influence what sports we see, how they are organized and run, who the stars of sport are, and how sports are played, seen, and consumed. In this chapter, we will emphasize politics and power, and consider how people have used power in the political arena to make and shape decisions that have influenced sport in the past and will influence its future.
