ABSTRACT
In Chapter 2, we disCussed the human predis-position toward kin-based altruism that explains why the family is an important social group in all societies. In all societies, groups of related people help each other out on a day-to-day basis. Because of gender-based asymmetry in parenting, men and women tend to play somewhat different roles in the family and look for somewhat different characteristics in a longterm partner.
