ABSTRACT

The kinds of diseases you get, and what you are likely to die of eventually, are a result of both the genetic predispositions you inherited and the environment you live in. The environment includes your diet and lifestyle, as well as your social environment. Consider, for example, colon cancer. I have a family history of this disease. My grandfather died of it, and my dad has had it. If I am unlucky enough, I have inherited the gene for that particular cancer and may one day get it myself.
