ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the author's view on the movement for Human Preservation. By pursuing people's own individual, group, and institutional self-preservation, they are creating the very dynamics that are threatening to destroy the world and its people. Whether in the universal destruction of nuclear holocaust and climate change, or in less universal but still catastrophic forms such as conventional war, economic crisis, toxic pollution, resource depletion, and species extinction, they see the pursuit of self-interest leading to mutual self-annihilation. The most likely way the author can think of to accomplish that end is to create a global people's movement to halt mutual destruction and lay the groundwork for human preservation. They need to impose what is necessary for human survival on corporations, nations, and the economic and nation-state systems of which they are part. And the only way he knows to do that is to do it from below by means of self-organization and people power.
