Many consider genocide a modern invention. Far from it. Genocides have been recorded throughout history, often with approval by those chronicling a “victory” of their particular tribe or nation. The number of victims might have been smaller in earlier times and the technology used against them cruder, but there is no question that intensive efforts to obliterate ethnic or religious groups and their cultures have occurred repeatedly-that is, genocide.
