ABSTRACT

Peace Action' understands that it is part of the international movement for peace. Its international involvement threads through the histories of its predecessors, SANE and the Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign. SANE/Freeze and Peace Action organized conferences and participated in protests on peace and justice issues that connected us with international peace movements. The International Office focused on informing and engaging SANE/Freeze members on international issues, building and strengthening partnerships with peace organizations throughout the world, and advocating at the United Nations. SANE/Freeze and Peace Action members actively participated in UN conferences on disarmament, small arms, culture of peace, racism, and children in armed conflict with the world community. Peace Action launched a major campaign 'to promote a new US foreign policy based on peaceful support for human rights and democracy, reducing the threat from weapons of mass destruction, and cooperation with the world community.
