ABSTRACT

This chapter enable participants to analyze the impact of globalization on women's human rights and explores the role of multinational corporations. It also explores the impact of development models on women and identifies the role of government, community leaders, the media, and women themselves in transforming the economy to better promote women's human rights. The globalized economy of the twenty-first century offers many women access to new careers and flexible jobs in a seemingly ever-expanding labor market. Unprecedented choices for consumption present themselves, and new routes emerge to enhance personal development. Moreover, new channels of information and technologies of communication improve understanding of global issues, thus potentially helping social movements to organize and promote wider adherence to human rights standards. Globalization has also been a major factor in the increase of human trafficking, often referred to as modern-day slavery and hence International responses to the trafficking in women and girls fall into law enforcement or human rights advocacy.
