ABSTRACT

The best way to plan going abroad is to draw up a checklist of issues to be confronted, chores and other activities to be done, and items to be procured. Another thing to remember when planning a trip abroad is to have a 'plan B'. If someone is traveling to areas with significant health risks and inadequate or expensive medical care, it might be wise to consider purchasing medical-assistance insurance to cover emergency evacuation. Traveling alone allows one to develop a sense of awareness about the surroundings. A key factor in deciding where to travel is ease of communication, and Americans and Britons generally have embarrassingly mediocre linguistic skills. Linguistic fluency enables to gain respect and trust and to feel empowered. Fluency in a foreign language, any foreign language, will not only help one professionally but will help in tackling another new language. A genuine interest in understanding local culture helps and motivates attempts to understand and speak the language.
