ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses scripting theory in terms of who, what, where, when, and why with respect to sexual scripts and describes the multilayered nature of societal versus individual sexual scripting. It outlines control-repression models of sexuality and contrasts them with full expression scripts and explains how couples go through each phase of scripting arriving at their own mutual sexual script. It also has an awareness of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) risk factors and protection methods. The chapter discusses rape in the context of sexual scripting and measurement difficulties and contrasts biologically based scripts with social learning theory.
