ABSTRACT

High Level Meeting on Food Security for All, Madrid, to carry forward the commitment made at the G8 meeting in July 2008 to create a Global Partnership on Agriculture and Food Security (GPAFS). July 10, 2009. The G8 Summit meeting in Italy issued the "L'Aquila Joint Statement on Global Food Security," voicing support for the GPAFS and other initiatives. The global meetings relating to food and nutrition frequently conclude with final declarations and plans of action. A major mechanism for harmonizing activities among global actors in relation to nutrition was established by the UN in 1977. The UN's Administrative Committee on Coordination (ACC), comprised of the heads of the UN agencies, recommended the establishment of the ACC Sub-Committee on Nutrition (ACC/ SCN). United Nations System Standing Committee on Nutrition, known simply as the SCN. Many of the global actors concerned with nutrition issues have been meeting regularly under the auspices of the ACC/SCN, and its successor, the SCN.
