ABSTRACT
In 1958, Robert Scott Brown and I entered Herbert Gans’s class in urban sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. We were three years out of architecture school, newly enrolled in the Department of City Planning at Penn’s Graduate School of Fine Arts, and full of questions from our travel and work experiences in Africa and Europe.
