ABSTRACT
While I have attended six National Gatherings since 2002, I went to the 2012 National Rainbow Gathering for the explicit purpose of conducting fieldwork. I spent almost six weeks there, watching as this ephemeral social world emerged, evolved, and dissolved. During my time there, many choices and challenges arose, some of which I had prepared for and others that I did not expect.
