Butterfly Bill wrote that Rainbow Gatherings are “a wild and crazy ride I take each year to discover things I can find nowhere else … a chance to test dreams by making them reality.” 1 A unique social world constructed through interaction, Rainbow Gatherings are a temporary, reoccurring ritual event that creates a sense of collective effervescence among those who participate. The material and cultural systems of a Rainbow Gathering work together to contribute to the crafted sense of connected collectivity that many gatherers experience.
