ABSTRACT

Every modern president has been a celebrity to some extent, the subject of pervasive curiosity and able to command media and public attention almost at will. That’s because every modern president, at least during the honeymoon period immediately following his election and during his first several months in office, has benefited from the essence of celebrity— fame, influence, and the insatiable interest of the mass media. The most successful presidents maintain or expand their star power; the least successful ones don’t.
