ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses examines the participation of women in agriculture in Pakistan and its relationship to empowerment. It shows that the importance of increasing women's participation in economic activities, particularly in potato production in Pakistan. Women have huge potential if they are provided with the opportunity to participate in economic activities. To examine the relationship between empowerment and labour participation of women, a regression analysis was conducted. Their diversified role ranges from economic contributions of household life to collective societal impact. The World Health Organization acknowledged women's greater participation in society globally, as they were found to perform productive tasks outside the home in addition to their traditional responsibility of traditional work responsibility at home. Women's involvement varies with the nature of the activity. Women are engaged in activities which are more time-consuming but require less physical effort, whereas men are found to undertake activities that require more physical labour. The female contribution in agricultural sector has been mapped globally.
