ABSTRACT

This book examined the intensive process of mediatization undergone by the IDF since the early 2000s within the context of revolutionary changes occurring at this time in three significant intersecting areas: the nature of contemporary warfare; the new media environment and communication technologies; and the social-cultural changes within Israeli society. It has shown that it was not only the recognition of the centrality of the media in deciding the outcome of contemporary conflicts or the expeditious development of communication technologies for battlefield use that expanded and diversified the army’s media outlets, but rather the interweaving of the media’s logics, format, content, language and pace with military concepts and operational patterns that expedited its incorporation into the IDF’s organizational and cultural identity. 1
