ABSTRACT

The task in this chapter is to reflect on the variations in force in a comment, a narrative sent into a different narrative field and the effect varying discourses/struggles of narratives that follow can have on the mode of operation in organizations. Modes of operation can change rapidly, in organizations and in societies. A change has to be communicated widely throughout the organization or the society. The difficulty organization science has in explaining that stable mode of operation has been alluded to earlier. The mode of operation changed with the increased membership of workers in trade unions. The unions were formally external to the firm organization. The speech acts suppressed can contain a way forward which potentially in the discourse situation is even more popular than the narrative that came out on top. Speech act theory of organization offers a paradigm that logically includes the description of that side of the narrative struggle, that underside of the organizing process.
