ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with the author's intellectual journey— a journey that underpinned his thinking in all preceding chapters. The journey is what allowed him to link the development of his overarching theory of the Arena to stages in his own development with respect to the use of digital technologies in education. The Arena provides a rationale for the coevolution of digital tools with educational practices over the last three decades and continuing into the future. It is a framework that enables the author to reflect back on his development as a scholar and teacher working to take advantage of the opportunities that digital tools open up, while grappling with the challenges they raise. At the centre of the Arena, in the ecosystems where some of the researchers integrate digital tools into programs of preservice teacher education. The chapter ends by using the Arena framework to anticipate possible futures as the process of coevolution continues.
