ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a series of interviews conducted between 2006 and 2016. The interview was to promote the reformation of Crowded House as a band, notably with a new member following the death of founding Melbourne-based musician, Paul Hester, who passed away in 2005. Brothers Tim and Neil Finn are songwriter/performers who were born in the small North Island town of Te Awamutu, New Zealand, in 1952 and 1958 respectively. Tim Finn was talking on the phone from Auckland to promote his most recent Australian/New Zealand collaboration – a play called The Fiery Maze which was the result of work with Australian poet Dorothy Porter. The snippets of these interviews over the last decade of music making reveal engaging details about Australian and New Zealand work as it is continuing to develop. Tim Finn's commitment to exploring music, poetry and the stage builds on his very early theatrical take with the New Zealand band Split Enz back in the 1970s and 1980s.
