ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the three other chapters that make up Part 1.2. However, certain aspects of human factors are common across these three chapters and the present chapter also deals with these aspects, which are:

Specialisms. Disciplines such as psychology, medicine and ergonomics are involved in human factors work.

Individual differences. How individuals differ from each other, and the range and complexity of individual differences.

Individual variability. How people’s attitudes, motivation and behaviours change over time, and the effects this variability can have.

The mutuality of effects. Individuals affect their environments as well as being affected by them.
