ABSTRACT

This chapter describes that the looming danger to the Earth's peoples is global warming. It asserts that the extreme levels of economic inequality that one see in the United States and very poor countries pose immense obstacles to responsibly dealing with global warming. To tackle global warming, the world must meet its commitment to create a fair playing field. This commitment accompanies the recognition that industrialized countries, notably the United States and European countries, have spewed CO2 out into the atmosphere for several centuries. The commitment entails agreements to meet the targets for the sustainable development goals (SDG). The SDG's replaces the Millennium Development Goals, which expired at the end of 2015. The entire SDG process and structure rests on human rights assumptions, along with the aim of further advancing human rights. SDG's explicitly deals with climate change, anticipating the Paris Climate Conference which was held November 30 to December 11, 2015.
