ABSTRACT

It was characteristic of Scriabin' s selC.centred messianism that he actually welcomed the outbreak of the War of 1914-IS as a prelude to the great transformation. He died quietly in Moscow in 1915, while the outside world appeared to be nearing its end rather through wholesale slaughter than through the regenerative powers of his music and an ecstatic act oflove. It is the final irony of Fate that Scriabin has remained alive as the composer of elegant short piano pieces while his grandiose orchestral works and his advanced theories of musical harmony have been for,. gotten, together with his mystical dreams.
